Students meet throughout the year in a group setting to hone their skills in theory, ear training, technique, sight-reading, transposition, music history, and performance. These skills are taught in a very systematic, yet engaging fashion. Students also receive opportunities to perform for their peers in a master class setting. The class teaches them how to actively listen and to provide and how to receive constructive criticism. Performance opportunities help students to prepare for performances and adjudications. Students learn how to conduct themselves both as performers and as members of the audience. The group setting also provides a sense of camaraderie between students.
