Sonata-Sonatina Festival
Sonata-Sonatina Festival gives students of all ages the opportunity to perform at St. Cecilia Music Center in one of the multiple recitals going on throughout the day. Recitals are generally 40 to 50 minutes in length and consist solely of sonatas and sonatinas. A judge is present and each student is given a comment sheet following their performance as well as a participation ribbon.
Piano Teachers' Forum Recital
Piano Teachers' Forum Recital is an opportunity for members of the Piano Teachers’ Forum to showcase their students in recitals at St. Cecilia Music Center.
Michigan Music Teachers' Association Student Achievement Testing (SAT)
The Achievement Testing Program is sponsored by the Michigan Music Teachers Association and administered by the various local associations throughout the state. The program is a systematic, graded study incorporating the following: performance, theory, technique, aural awareness, sight reading, and transposition.

Piano Teachers' Forum Scholarship Competition
Competition is open to Junior High (6, 7, and 8 grade in odd-numbered years) and High School students (9, 10, and 11 grade in even-numbered years) wishing to receive financial assistance toward a Summer Music Camp or other institute of music instruction.
Michigan Music Teachers’ Association Ensemble Festival - Grand Rapids
The Ensemble Festivals are mini-recitals in which students perform in ensembles and are given feedback from a judge, as well as, participation ribbons.
Annual Awards Competition
The Annual Awards Competition is an opportunity for students to play two designated pieces from memory before a judge. Monetary awards are given for 1st and 2nd place winners in each of four divisions.
National Federation of Music Clubs
There are two different opportunities for students to participate in music clubs. Both clubs begin with a half hour presentation from a professional musician and the second half features student performers. Students are not required to perform, but must attend three full meetings of in order to participate in National Federation of Music Clubs Festival.
Grand Rapids Musicians’ League (G.R.M.L)
Grand Rapids Musicians’ League (G.R.M.L) meets in the Kretschmer Hall at Aquinas College on Fridays from 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Members also have the opportunity to play in community outreach programs. Numerous scholarship competitions are available for members.
St. Cecilia Junior Music Clubs
St. Cecilia Junior Music Clubs meet at St. Cecilia Music Center in downtown Grand Rapids from 4:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m. on Fridays. Refreshments are available starting at 4:00 p.m. A drawing is held at each meeting for two tickets to a St. Cecilia concert event. Multiple scholarship competitions are available.
National Federation of Music Clubs Festival
Applicants are adjudicated by an independent judge who awards a rating, which earns the student points in the category entered. Points are accumulated each season toward a small, medium, large, extra large, or Grand Gold Cu pin each particular category. Students who receive a gold cup also have the opportunity to participate in the Gold Cup Recital.
Musical Merriment
Musical Merriment is presented by the students of the Hanley Music Studio every Winter at Second Congregational Church. Students have the opportunity to represent the studio and perform for friends and family.

Spring Musicale is presented by the students of the Hanley Music studio every Spring at Second Congregational Church. Students have the opportunity to represent the studio and perform for friends and family.
