In order to preserve the tradition of classical music in America we need to impart an understanding, appreciation, and love of this music in our youth. Music is a universal language. Classical music is a very special form of communication because it mirrors all human emotion from the deepest sorrow to the greatest joy. It is our obligation to ensure that none of the richness of classical music is lost for future generations.
The students of today will become the performers, teachers, composers, and audiences of tomorrow. Each student today needs to develop their voice and learn to speak the language of music fluently. A solid foundation in technique, theory, musicality, sight-reading, and music history, along with an understanding of correct performance practices of each musical period are required to achieve this fluency. Once achieved, musical fluency is the pathway to the world of classical music.
The pathway to classical music is daunting without systematic instruction. If the teacher gently guides a student, gives them strong fundamentals, and believes in their ability, they will succeed. When carefully and systematically presented, large tasks, which at first glance appear insurmountable, become attainable by the student. Mastery brings joy.
The goal of the Hanley Music Studio is to preserve the tradition of classical music in America and to form the performers, teachers, composers, and audiences of tomorrow.
